Students

Care that works around
a class schedule.

Campus counseling centres do good work with more demand than capacity, and the queue is always longest when the need is sharpest. Care from outside the centre closes that gap without duplicating what campus staff do best.

Questions about care for students

Can I keep my therapist when I go home for the summer?
Ask before you start. Therapists are licensed by state, and sessions are generally tied to where you are physically sitting during the appointment. Some clinicians hold licences in more than one state and some cannot continue across a state line — knowing which in week one prevents losing continuity mid-course.
Will my parents see that I am using therapy?
If you are on a parent's insurance plan, claims activity may appear on their statements. That is worth asking about directly rather than assuming the worst. Self-pay and sliding-scale arrangements exist precisely for this situation, so raise it when you are working out cost.
Should I use my campus counseling centre instead?
Often yes, and we will say so. Campus services are usually the right answer for anything entangled with the institution — accommodations, medical withdrawal, a Title IX matter — and for same-day crisis support. Where they strain is sustained weekly therapy over a long period.
